Will app downloads beat music downloads

appstoreiconAnalyst say that iOS app downloads are set to beat music downloads by March.

In a post on the Macworld blog, from their colleagues in the UK, the race is on to the 10 Billionth download from the App Store. Here’s how it breaks down, “If we measure downloads as a function of the number of months since store launch, we can see that apps reached 10 billion downloads in less than half the time it took songs,” said Asymco’s Horace Dediu. BubbleBall-AppThe App Store has a new #1 free app. Welcome the new king BubbleBall.

9 to 5 Mac has the story. The app was created by a 14 year old boy and he has dethroned AngryBirds from the top of the list. The app, BubbleBall, has been downloaded more than 2 million times.

Mac Daily News has a list of all the features and what the new update includes.

While over at iPodNN they are referring to the update as “critical”. Why? Because this update includes support for AirPlay video.

Apple iTunes to Shorten Links on Ping

Ping SidebariTunes Ping social network has expanded to Twitter. Apple has started using their own “iTun.es” domain to do it, as reported over at Mac|Life and Mac Rumors.

Its also being reported that third-party Twitter applications may, however, continue to display Twitter’s default ’t.co’ shortened version.

Ping adds playlist creation

iTunes PingSo iTunes has added playlist creation and publishing to its Ping  social service.

MacNN reports that you can import an existing playlist from the iTunes or create a new one on the spot, and share it with friends and strangers.

The report further shares that since Apple wasn’t able to come to an agreement with Facebook they have opted for taking a low-key, more subtle additions to Ping.
