Custom 404 Pages

We always get asked how about making a custom 404 error page in RapidWeaver. Well folks, today is your lucky day :)

Why a custom 404 error page? The reason is quite simple you want to retain,attract and direct the attention of your visitor. It’s not their fault they have entered something incorrectly and got a dull looking page that does not resemble your web site.

Another plus is that is great for search engines, you never know they might stumble on a bad page so you can have links in your new 404 page to go back to where they should be looking.

In todays show, I will walk you through:

creating a custom 404 error page in RapidWeaver, more specifically page settings.
editing the htaccess file ,
what to put in the htaccess file for the 404 page

Disable Pinterest – Quick Tip Post

As Pinterest usage is increasing daily some of us are not fond of having any of our nice ‘copyrighted’ images ‘pinned’ by over enthusiastic pinners :)

Here is a quick-tip post for both RapidWeaver and Sandvox users to quickly disable pinning either page by page or site-wide in your respective web site projects.

RapidWeaver – Single Page disable pin

1. Open the page inspector

2. Click on Header Tab

3. Add the following code

<meta name=”pinterest” content=”nopin”>

Note: If you are using an existing project this will only apply to new pages

1. Open Setup

2. Select Template

3. Add the new meta tags as shown in the image above.

1. Open the page inspector

2. Click on Page properties Icon and Page Tab.

3. Add the following code to the meta tags area

You can also do this via the Page Code Injection Menu option too
